portland

hi!

i went to portland oregon,  for a couple days with a few pals. it was a whirlwind of eating, drinking, shopping & laughing (&crying, ha ha).
i discovered portland in a new way. in a completely indulgent, kind of way, where my focus was to just have fun & see new things. & of course, i want to move there now.
but, i think my nephew put it best today, he said "just stay put for a few years."
word. 

 

LA pt. II

babycakes opened on larchmont!  since we were in LA for a short time, we didn't want to waste our time driving downtown, just for a vegan donut, cupcake, cinamon roll...  (i wouldn't put that past me tho!) anyway, we were excited about the new location!

we also dropped by one of my favorite shops in LA, IKO IKO. super inspiring space & the owner of the shop is a friend of ours & is so sweet!

we played a small show in echo park.
we got to see some friends.
we ate our favorite food.
ghetto birds lit up the streets,  & i quickly remembered the old feelings i had,  when i'd see the helicopter lights in our backyard. it's funny to think back now, but it's never funny when it's happening!

i don't care,
i l o v e LA.
i wonder if we will move back someday.
for now, i'll enjoy our monthly visits. anyway, i think it's better to visit, you get to do your favorite things all within a couple of days.

speaking of tomatoes...

i grew one tomato plant, & there are so many mini tomatoes, now i can't wait til next year when i can grow more.

my photography pal, simbarashe, runs a style site called lordashbury. he's selling a few prints, for a limited time, to help pay for his trip to london, for fashion week.

our place is slowly coming together. a lot slower than i would like, but hey. we're in the market for a sofa(s) (maybe sectional?) but in the meantime have a cluster of chairs that work as a little hang out area.

i got my first fiddle leaf fig plant. <3>

living in fresno gives our friends more of a reason to visit, i think. we've had more visitors in the last couple months than we did, in our entire time living in new york.
i'm not sure what that means, but i like it.

alalmeda point antiques faire

selling at the flea market is fun, b/c it's like having your own little outdoor shop...which you work at (for yourself) with your pals. the weather started out super gloomy & misty, but by the end the skies were blue & we ended up leaving sun-kissed. (well...more like sun-frenchkissed)

being around so much clothing all day, makes me a little unsatisfied with whatever i'm wearing. & also, it's a long day, i feel like changing my outfit is in the same vein as re-merchandising the racks.

coop said he's, personally, tired of us leaving to do these flea markets :) unlike at a real shop, i can't bring my pet in to work.
maybe someday.

flea market

hi guys! we're selling our vintage clothing at the alameda point antiques faire tomorrow! we're teaming up with our pals again, so if you're anywhere near there, or want to make a day trip out of it, stop by our space! it's one of my favorite flea markets & not to mention they serve my favorite food!

(but still haven't found anyone serving good coffee there.)

weekend cocktail

not making any promises, but i just got this idea, to make a new cocktail every weekend...
now that i have a couple "cool" glasses. (lol)

this weekend's cocktail is a gimlet! one of my favorite things to order at a bar! & i've mastered it at home myself.

i'll call this one...

liska's gimlet

1 part tequila

1 part grapefruit juice

agave (to taste, i used 1 1/2 tsp)

lots of mint

put all ingredients into a shaker with ice. shake vigorously (probably can shake lightly too). 

strain into a very cute small glass. toss a mint leaf (or 2) on top. 

enjoy! 

i've made this exact drink but using whiskey. so i imagine, you can use any type of liquor. 

nate prefers whiskey & i like tequila.

our pal greg, from nyc came to visit. well, i can't really say that anymore, b/c he's moving to london!
we made our famous nopales tacos w/ guacamole, and our special cocktails. 

we ate tacos, coop watched.

while i lived in nyc, i went to karaoke with greg & a few other friends,  for my first time... & we sang telephone, by lady gaga featuring beyonce,  together.... & then i continued to go every other month.
so, we took greg to karaoke night at a dive bar, here. he did a b-ea-utiful rendition of dolly parton's jolene. unfortunately, one big dolly fan did not like it.

she proceeded to harass him for a good ten minutes after that, hugging him, kissing him. oh fresno. sigh.

as one internet user put it, fresno is one big dive bar.

i found out about an organic garden in fresno, where you can go & pick your own veggies.

i bought a bunch of eggplant. i only like it roasted & blended w/ indian spices. over rice. the end.
